Festive Nail Tutorial

December is perfect for EVERYONE to go a little bit crazy on their nails. If you can't get away with nail art at work for whatever reason (think about handing in your notice) then this is the time to push some paint-job boundaries and add a little glitter fade to the mix or even a candy cane or two. BUT WAIT...

"I don't know how to paint a candy cane on a nail" I hear you cry!

How To Paint Candy Cane Nails

You'll need...

  • A striper brush
  • Gold nail paint. I used Trust Fund Beauty in “Champagne Problems”
  • Red nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “I Love My Selfie”
  • Black nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “I Cant Even”
  • Dark Green nail paint. I used Cheeky in “Moss Behaving”
  • White nail paint. OPI’s “Alpine Snow”
  • Red gems
  • Top Coat

After giving yourself or your BFF a relaxing manicure at home...

  • Paint 2 coats of Gold (Nail 1)
  • Using a striper brush, draw a cane shape in white (Nail 2)
  • Paint tiny stripes over the white, in red (Nail 3)
  • Draw tiny holly leaves either side of the cane & fill with green (Nail 4)
  • Outline in black (Nail 4)
  • Paint Topcoat (Nail 4)
  • Add Red Gems (Nail 4)

How To Paint Tartan Nails

  • A striper brush
  • Gold nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “Champagne Problems”
  • Blue nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “Got Yacht?”
  • Dark Red nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “Just Call My Lawyer”
  • Red nail paint. Trust Fund Beauty, “I Love My Selfie”
  • Gold studs
  • Topcoat

After giving yourself or your BFF a relaxing manicure at home...

  • Paint 2 coats of red (Nail 1)
  • Paint 2 wide, vertical stripes and 2 horizontal stripes using dark red (Nail 2)
  • Use the same red as the base colour to paint over the dark red, except for where they cross (Nail 3)
  • Use a striper brush to add blue lines (Nail 4)
  • Use a striper brush to add thin, gold lines in the middle of the thick stripes (Nail 5)
  • Paint Topcoat (Nail 5)
  • Add gold studs where the gold lines cross (Nail 5)
 Tartan Nails. It's up to you which layer to stop adding details :)
